Microchip MCP2518FD CAN FD Software Driver
March 2, 2020, Terre Haute, IN – Simma Software, Inc. announced today the release of a highperformance CAN device driver for the Microchip MCP2518FD external CAN FD controller. The release of this CAN driver adds to the growing list of external CAN controllers and MCUs that Simma Software supports and are used in conjunction with the major CAN protocols including J1939, ISO 15765, UDS, CANopen, XCP, and NMEA 2000.
The MCP2518FD is a low-cost external CAN FD controller which can be added to a hardware design using a microcontroller without CAN FD support, or an additional CAN port is required for the design. The MCP2518FD controller supports both classic CAN as well as CAN flexible data rate (CAN FD). CAN FD features network speeds up to 5 Mbps and data payloads up to 64 bytes.
The CAN software for the MCP2518FD adds to an already robust list of supported Microchip parts. According to Patrick Browne, the firm’s Director of Business Development, “As a firm, Simma Software has long supported all of Microchip’s MCU families and external CAN controllers. We continue to expand our product library to offer software solutions to customers that are incorporating Microchip parts into their embedded designs.”
